Fujimoto Hideto

Whenever I have blankness in my head, couldn’t think of any idea for work, I would get off and do something else or go digging up some ideas from books or web sites. Most of web sites I browse are illustration lately. I found that I like works of Japanese illustrators better. I think it’s because most of Japanese works are simple but full of meanings and have a touch of sweetness in some way.

This work of Fujimoto Hideto is not exactly sweet as I said but it has a sense of something I cannot tell. In his web site, he classifies his work into 4 different types. Most of them are cartoonish and done in unique style. I like his first type which a bit static compare to his others. But somehow I keep clicking on his whimsical cartoon illustrations on and on. I don’t quite like his cartoon style compare to the first type but I have to admit that this style has a charm.

my journal

I’m not exactly a journal keeper, not on a daily basis, and it makes me regret sometimes when I thought of some wonderful experiences in the past which I can remember only fragments. With some notes, the memory might have been clearer and more vivid. So, I decide to begin keeping journal this year. It’s funny that I have been collecting beautiful notebooks for some time but only few pages are written. Most of the books are blank all through.

This pink one above is one of them. I think It’s the latest blank book I bought just the end of last year. The book is covered with fabric and has nice green read paper inside. I like the touch of green read paper. It feels soft and warm and just makes me want to write and draw something on it.

I hope I can keep my own promise and can flip through these pages, all written, at the end of this year.

By the way, the cute little thing on the book is a card holder (there is some sort of a clip at the back of the little face) I bought from Japan (I guess) long long time ago. It doesn’t function well, the clip is too small to secure a card in position, but I like its form and the look of the face. A little thing that makes me feel happy just to look at it.
